Sphinxmoth v1.1

The Sphinxmoth replaces the original spinning hard drive in a 1st or 2nd generation iPod with a modern CompactFlash card. Same size as the drive it replaces, so it drops into the stock drive bay: open the iPod, unplug the old drive's ribbon cable, plug it into the Sphinxmoth, and close it up. Your iPod is lighter, silent, faster to skip tracks, and no longer waiting on a 25-year-old hard drive to fail.

Unlike the cheap passive adapters, the Sphinxmoth has an active chip on it that talks to the iPod the way the original drive did. Modern cards do not work reliably with passive adapters; that is the problem this board exists to solve.

Works with CompactFlash cards directly. It also works with an SD or microSD card through a CF-to-SD adapter, based on our limited testing so far, with one firm requirement: the adapter must be the thin Type I kind (3.3 mm). The thicker 5 mm Type II adapters do not physically fit.

You get the Sphinxmoth board. Memory card and adapter not included; installation is DIY. Rendered image; production boards may vary slightly.
